Shanghai HR&L is a fairly new, boutique practice that focuses solely on Chinese labour and employment law issues. Professor Baohua Dong first opened the office in 2007, and was joined soon after by experienced partner George Lu. The small team punches above its weight in contentious work relating to employment and labour disputes, and also provides multinationals and others with advice on the full range of labour and employment matters.
Shanghai HR&L recently advised Stanley Black & Decker in relation to the Stanley GMT Company that it created in tandem with Shanghai Tong-Feng Hardware. Stanley Black & Decker initially agreed to wages and monthly income payments with employees that were later petitioned by 76 employees. The Shanghai HR&L team was able to resolve the dispute between management and labour within just one month due to extensive research within a tight timeframe and being able to quickly advise on collective negotiations.
