John Huang is a founding partner of MWE China Law offices. John received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, and LL.M from the University of California in Los Angeles. John has broad experience and is a leading lawyer in the areas of foreign investment, cross border transactions and has represented his clients resolving complex issues with various government agencies including Ministry of Commerce, National Development and Reform Commission, State Administration of Foreign Exchange, State Administration for Industry and Commerce, State Taxation Administration, General Administration of Customs, Public Security Bureau and State Food and Drug Administration. During his legal career, John has successfully represented numerous landmark transactions and disputes for both Fortune 500 and well-known Chinese enterprises.

John has been the recipient of numerous prestigious legal awards. For his outstanding legal practice, he was named as “A Leading, Pragmatic, and Experienced Lawyer in China” by Chambers in 2009. From 2000 to 2006, John was named one of Asia’s Leading Business Lawyers. In 2005 and 2006, he was selected by Asian Legal Business (ALB) magazine as the one of the Hot 30 Lawyers in China and Hot 100 Lawyers in the Asia Pacific region. For his great contribution to the legal practice in China, he was nominated by ALB as the Local Law Firm Dealmaker of the Year in 2005 and the China Dealmaker of the year in 2006.  In 2004, he received a nomination by Legal Business, the publisher of the Asia Pacific Legal 500, as the Lawyer of the Year, an honour that is only given to the most successful lawyer in Asia.

On March 2, China’s State Council presented John Huang with the prestigious 2010 Special State Council Award (a lifetime award which is rarely given to practicing attorneys in China) in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of China’s legal profession.
