Mr Deming Zhao graduated from University College London (LLM in commercial and corporate law) and Xiamen University Law School (LLB, LLM & PhD). Before joining HaoLiWen, Dr Zhao had been an in-house counsel of Kodak, a partner of a PRC law firm in Shanghai and a senior associate of Paul Hastings. Mr Zhao is also an arbitrator of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission, an arbitrator of Xiamen Arbitration Commission and conciliator of China International Chamber of Chamber of Commerce. Since 1993, Mr Zhao has been a PRC licenced lawyer engaging in the corporate, commercial and litigation practices.

As a corporate lawyer, Mr Zhao has served as the chief negotiator and counsel for a number of projects concerning joint venture, acquisition, merger, divestiture and corporate restructuring. He has been leading a team advising multinationals on the daily basis regarding diversified issues arising from their operations in China, including regulatory compliance issues concerning anti-corruption, antitrust and customs regulatory compliance.

Dr Zhao is also renowned as one of leading lawyers in the customs and tariffs practice. He has advised multinational companies in connection with import and export duties, customs regulatory compliance audits and customs-related risk control scheme. He also has acted regularly as the defence lawyer for corporate clients suspected in general violation of customs laws and regulations and in smuggling cases.

Mr Zhao also has more than 15 year experience in dispute resolution and shipping litigation.
