M Husseyn Umar has been a Partner with the firm since 1989. A University
of Indonesia law graduate, and had maritime law training in USA, UK and
Germany, he has held various positions at the Ministry of Transport and
Communications, in particular at the Directorate General of Sea
Communications.
He was President Director of PT PANN Ship Financing Corporation and then
President Director of PT PELNI National Shipping Line. Subsequently, he
served as a Transport and Communications Attaché at the Indonesian
Embassy in the Netherlands, member of the experts staff of the Minister
of Transport and Communications, and Sectoral Support Adviser in
Shipping, Ports, Multimodal Transport and Maritime Legislation of the
United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Secretariat
in Geneva. M Husseyn Umar is Vice Chairman of the Governing Board of
BANI Arbitration Centre, Indonesia and is also listed as arbitrator of
that body. He is also member of the Panels of Conciliations and
Arbitrations of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment
Disputes (ICSID) in Washington DC.
Within the firm, he handles matters relating to general shipping, ship
finance, marine insurance and P & I matters, ports and harbours,
salvage and collision and marine pollution. He also handles dispute
resolution/arbitration.
