Co-founding and senior partner of AZB & Partners, Ajay Bahl is one
of India’s foremost corporate attorneys. In addition to being a lawyer,
he is a qualified accountant and prior to setting up his own firm, he
practised in the areas of direct tax as an accountant. He qualified as a
chartered accountant in 1979 and as a lawyer in 1985. He has been
associated with various important leading tax rulings, including a
recent widely reported one, involving a US satellite company, in which
the Indo-US double taxation avoidance agreement was analysed in detail
and distinguished from domestic law. Ajay’s areas of expertise include
