Baljit specialises in all aspects of investments into India and advises joint ventures from negotiations leading to their inception to occasions when ventures have to be restructured or liquidated. Baljit is also closely involved in assisting overseas clients in operational and management issues during the commencement stage of joint ventures. Baljit has expertise with all aspects of Indian securities laws including on takeovers, disclosures, public offers etc. Baljit also advises on delistings as well as acquisition of shares of hold-out shareholders. Baljit regularly advises on the complicated relationships between various foreign exchange regulations, securities laws, stock exchange rules and tax provisions. Baljit advises on block deals on stock exchanges as well as Off-market and brokered transactions. Baljit advises on demergers and subsequent acquisition of demerged undertakings/companies of listed companies. Baljit regularly advises on directors’ duties and responsibilities, disclosure issues and other aspects of corporate governance during such M&A transactions. Baljit also manages a team of market participants in the securities industry who are able to provide clients with complete and updated technical advice enabling clients to close market based acquisitions expeditiously. This resulting experience has allowed him to be able to present clients with a unique perspective in structuring sophisticated M&A in India.

As a part of his M&A practice, Baljit has had substantial transactional involvement in numerous industry groups and also regularly advises on Labour, Banking, Taxation, Capital Markets, Real Estate & Data Protection issues. Baljit has also advised clients on outbound investments to Malaysia, Singapore, UAE and Thailand and conducts cross border M&A’s while managing the complex interplay of mandatory laws of various jurisdictions. Baljit’s commercial litigation background also enables him to provide clients with effective enforcement guidance while advising on M&A related issues.

Baljit is a frequent participant at international conferences and was recently invited to speak on Reconciling Onshore and Offshore Investor and Lender Interests at the Transport India Conference. Baljit also spoke on various aspects of outsourcing at the USIBC- ABA Legal Conference. Baljit regularly appears as a panellist on television news channels including TimesNow, Zee Business, CNBC etc., where he provides his views on various legal issues.

Baljit was born in Tokyo, Japan and currently resides in New Delhi with his wife and son. Baljit received a College Award for Hockey and retains an active interest in sports.
