Somasekhar heads the Securities Laws and Private Equity practice of the firm.
Somasekhar is a specialist in takeovers of listed companies, and private
equity investments. Primarily a transactional lawyer, his practice
covers Private Equity investments, hostile and friendly listed
takeovers, delisting and court-overseen Mergers & Acquisitions.
He was a member of the Takeover Regulations Advisory Committee set up by
the Securities and Exchange Board of India to write new regulations
governing takeovers in India. Somasekhar has extensive experience in
dealing with securities regulations, and regulations governing foreign
investment into India, both in the form of primary direct investment,
and secondary portfolio investments. He was also part of the Working
Group on Capital Flows set up the Ministry of Finance, Government of
India in 2010, and is now a consultant to the Financial Sector
Legislative Reform Commission.
Somasekhar’s practice also covers regulatory proceedings and contentious
practice involving Securities Laws. He appears as counsel before the
Securities Exchange Board of India, the Securities Appellate Tribunal
and the Supreme Court of India in such matters.
Somasekhar is an active member of the Corporate Laws Committee and the
Capital Markets Committee of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce
& Industry.
Somasekhar writes a fortnightly column titled ‘Without Contempt’ in the
Business Standard, a national business daily, apart from contributing as
a guest to a leading blog on Indian corporate laws.
