She even dialled in on a conference call that wasn’t urgent while she was on holiday!” The firm acted for Hong Leong Bank in its acquisition of assets and liabilities from EON Capital. The transaction closed in May 2011 and was valued at RM5.1 billion (US$1.7 billion).

The firm combines this excellent dispute resolution acumen with strength in its corporate practice, and it has shot up the rankings this year. Partner Ira Biswas is a well respected name in the industry, with one peer saying: “He’s an accomplished legal professional and highly regarded.” The firm acted for Sumitomo in proceedings brought forth by Jimah Power Generation against 20 parties, including the firm’s client, regarding proprietary rights over a coal-fired power plant project. The proceedings were struck out in the High Court, and the appeal was withdrawn in August 2010.
