Taxation
The presence of multiple tax laws at central and state level, presents a unique complexity for companies regarding strategic sourcing, location and compliance. At the same time, dichotomy between Customs Valuation and Transfer Pricing is more evident than ever in India. Tax Division at L&S advises clients in all areas of tax including direct, indirect and international tax. L&S also represents clients in tax disputes at all levels, upto the Supreme Court of India. Our extensive litigation experience allows us to advise clients in obtaining a net positive effect through proper planning.
Corporate & Commercial
L&S has an experienced and dynamic Corporate Commercial Practice providing full scale transaction support and corporate advisory services. The team is well equipped to take a transaction through its full cycle and is known for expert advice on all ancillary aspects related to a transaction such as regulatory compliances, post acquisition advisory, corporate secretarial matters etc. An integrated and holistic approach aided by a formidable Tax Division gives the Corporate Team an edge in advising clients on optimal and tax efficient structuring of transactions and entry/investment strategies.
The Team is representing several clients in an antitrust investigation in automobile sector.
International Trade
The International Trade Division at L&S enjoys a stellar reputation for its work in the areas of anti-dumping, subsidies and safeguards investigations. L&S has advised TEXPROCIL and Ministry of Commerce, GOI in the Multilateral Rules Negotiation at the WTO. L&S also represented MOFCOM, Government of China in several Special Safeguard proceedings initiated by Government of India. The Division has advised business entities in over 200 anti-dumping investigations initiated by India, EU, USA, Korea, Indonesia, South Africa and Turkey. Our professionals also handle matters pertaining to free trade agreements, sanitary & phyto-sanitary measures, market access and national treatment.
Intellectual Property
The Intellectual Property Division at L&S has expertise in all the intellectual property laws including patents, designs, trademarks, copyrights and plant variety protection (PVP) and work closely with clients in litigation, preparation & prosecution, licensing and IP management. L&S was the first to file application under PVP Act and enjoys more than 80% share in filings under the same. The Patent Litigation team achieved greater heights in the year 2010-11 and successfully defended interest of an Indian wind energy company in a highly publicized patent litigation. The team is also representing a major automobile company in litigation relating to spark plug technology and a premier airlines company in litigation relating to seat designs.
